Vodka with cousins leads to train wreck for Antioch woman

20-year-old Hailey Vilaysith was charged with driving under the influence and underage consumption when video footage showed the car she was driving collided with a train at a railroad crossing. She told officers the driver fled the scene.

On May 11th, officers responded to the collision of a train and vehicle at a crossing at Porter Road. According to affidavits, Hailey Vilaysith told them the driver had left the scene. Vilaysith had the keys and claimed to have attempted to move it from the tracks. Authorities also spoke to a witness, who had come to the scene after hear the crash, she attested observing Vilaysith exiting the driver’s seat.

Vilaysith could not produce identification or tell officers her destination but explained she had imbibed vodka with cousins on Porter Road. She was visibly intoxicated and performed poorly on sobriety tasks as well as blowing a .100 blood alcohol content. The security footage from a nearby residence showed the vehicle attempting to circumvent the stop bar at the tracks and ultimately smash into the train.

Hailey Vilaysith was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicant and consumption of alcohol under 21. Her bond was set at $5,000 but was later freed on pre-trial release.
