40-year-old Melissa Smith was charged with aggravated assault involving serious bodily injury when a lovers spat at a Madison bodega escalated to the point where she stabbed her boyfriend in the chest.
On April 26th, officers were requested at John’s Market at 207 Gallatin Pike in regard to a stabbing. According to the affidavit, romantic couple Arethanell Crowder and Melissa Smith were in an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation.
They were shoving each other back and forth until Smith pulled out a knife and stabbed Crowder in the chest. Smith fled on foot but the security cameras caught the incident. She was found a little more than half a mile away at Grand Slam Neighborhood Market located at 500 East Old Hickory.
Melissa Smith was arrested and charged with aggravated assault involving serious bodily injury. She is currently jailed in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
