34-year-old Darnell Cunningham was charged with theft of a vehicle after law enforcement discovered that the car in question had run out of gas at an intersection in North Nashville. Cunningham is notably known as the party responsible for stealing two pairs of boots belonging to Kacey Musgraves in 2016.

On June 21st, officers observed a vehicle stationary at the intersection of Dr. D.B. Todd Jr. Blvd and Scovel St. Further investigation revealed the car to be stolen. As law enforcement ran the vehicle’s information, the passenger door was opened. The individuals inside were apprehended. According to their accounts, the car ran out of gas and the driver was en route to a gas station. After receiving a description of the subject by the two passengers, the driver was found by a nearby gas station. The man, who was later identified as Darnell Cunningham, confessed to driving the stolen vehicle. The keys were located inside the man’s pocket, resulting in Cunningham being placed into custody for theft of a vehicle.

The looted vehicle is not the first theft that Cunningham has committed. In January of 2016, the man reportedly stole two pairs of boots from American singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves. Cunningham attempted to return the footwear shortly thereafter, the boots being valued at nearly $900. He was placed into custody one day after the incident was reported.

Darnell Cunningham was arrested and charged with theft of property over $10,000. His bond was set at $30,000.
