42-year-old Zachary Ryan was charged with aggravated assault by strangulation when a woman who may be either his wife or fiance, told officers they were drinking all day and he cut off her breathing with his forearm when she suggested he get a job.

On May 27th, Metro Nashville Officers responded to a domestic incident at 704 Battle Road. According to the affidavit, Zachary Ryan told authorities he and Amber Martin were engaged in an argument about spending money on his mother. Ryan claimed he attempted to record the altercation to show her how she was acting and Amber had grasped his wrist to stop him. Ryan stated that he captured Martin in a “bear hug” and officers noted his story to be inconsistent.

In contrast, Martin told officers that the pair had been drinking for most of the day. She explained suggesting Ryan should get a job, at which point he pushed her into a wall and impeded her ability to breathe with his forearm. Martin advised she had thrown a Coke at him to escape and hide in a closet. Officers noted redness on Amber Martin’s neck and referred to her as Zachary Ryan’s “wife/fiance” throughout the report.
