The patient, who was identified as Zyrone Reed, was unwilling to speak with Humes when questioned. Officer Eicholtz arrived on to the scene shortly thereafter and began to speak with Reed. According to the affidavit, Reed was hostile throughout the incident and made personnel inside the emergency room unable to perform their work. An eyewitness account from Monica Shriver claimed that once Dr. Kelley entered the room to treat Reed, the patient trapped Kelley and left the doctor in fear of his life.

Zyrone Reed was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and assault. His bond was set at $2,500.
