25-year-old Anton Rucker was charged with attempted criminal homicide, three counts of especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, and interference with a 911 call after he held a handgun to his child’s mother’s head while driving, threatened to kill her and the children, and then beat and strangled her in an alley before stealing her phone and money.
On July 7th, Angela Mean was picking up her two children that she and defendant Anton Ruckerhave together from Rucker’s parents’ house where he was visiting them. He is not allowed to have unsupervised visits with the children and they are no longer in an intimate dating relationship. Rucker’s parents were supervising his visit with the children’s visit at their home in La Vergne when Mean came to pick them up. He asked if he could get a ride with them to which she agreed. While traveling back the children were in the back seat, Rucker was in the passenger seat, and Mean was driving. They made it to East Nashville when Rucker brandished a Springfield XD 40 caliber handgun and held it to Mean telling her to unlock her phone or he would kill her and the children. Continuing to threaten her, he said that he would “blow her brains out” and that if she refused to unlock her phone that he would grab the steering wheel and kill all of them.
She was close to her home when he told her to pull over into an alley. He got out of the car and grabbed her by the hair pulling her from the driver’s seat through the passenger side door. When they were outside he struck her in the face with the handgun in her eye. Standing up from being hit she tried to defend herself but he placed her into a rear one-armed chokehold and began to strangle her.
After falling to the ground and almost losing consciousness she asked him to stop because she could not breathe. He let go of her and then kicked and stomped on her multiple times before dragging her back into the passenger seat. Now in the driver’s seat, Rucker drove around the block while hitting her in the top of her head with the handgun. The children in the back were crying the whole time during the incident that he drove around not allowing any of them to leave. Blood was pouring down her face and she said that she could not call 911 because he had taken possession of her phone.
The threats of killing her and her children continued with him pointing the gun at her and hitting her multiple times on the head with it. After they drove around for about ten blocks Rucker stopped the car and left. As he was leaving she stated that he took, $50 cash, her debit cards, and her iPhone 7 valued around $120. The police reported that there were visible injuries to her back, right eye, top of her head, left ear, left leg, and left arm. They took photos of all the injuries as well as all the blood splatter inside the vehicle. She told the officers that the last thing that he said to her before he left was “now that is how you break up with someone!”
Anton Rucker was arrested and charged with attempted criminal homicide, three counts of especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, and interference with a 911 call. His total bond was set at $277,500.
