Intoxicated man tells medic he yanked the wheel causing his wife to wreck on I-40

37-year-old David Waters was charged with reckless endangerment and vandalism when his wife told authorities she was taking him to get some food and he attempted to exit the moving vehicle, then yanked the wheel causing them to crash.

On June 23rd, Metro Nashville Police responded to a vehicle wreck on Interstate 40 near the mile 214 marker. According to affidavits, officers found the vehicle in a wooded area off the roadway, Tina Waters identified herself as the driver. Ms. Waters told authorities that she was taking her inebriated husband, David Waters, to get some food when he attempted to open his door while the vehicle was in motion on the highway.

She stated David then yanked the steering wheel causing them to leave the road and crash through a guard rail. Tina Waters sustained a head injury and was transported to Summit Hospital. Nashville Fire Department extracted David Waters from the passenger seat. While en route to the same hospital, a medic noted that David admitted to causing the wreck.

David Waters was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment and vandalism. His bond was set at $10,000.
