Vehicle burglar caught in the act, attacks owner when told to stop

32-year-old Phillip Perry was charged with assault and burglary of a motor vehicle after he was caught attempting to break into a vehicle and assault the owner when he was told to stop, per report.

On July 9th, law enforcement was dispatched to the scene of a reported theft and observed a man breaking into a vehicle. According to the affidavit, the man, later identified as Phillip Perry, was attempting to steal belongings inside the vehicle as well as a toolbox. Perry was then detained by bicycle patrol officers for further investigation.

Matthew Morris and an additional eyewitness positively identified Perry as the party responsible. Morris informed law enforcement that Perry was initially told to stop breaking into the man’s vehicle, but responded by attacking him. Morris required medical transport and further evaluation at a hospital, per report.

Phillip Perry was arrested and charged with burglary of a motor vehicle and assault. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $40,000 bond.
