21-year-old Malik Watson was charged with evading arrest and felon in possession of a handgun after he was observed disposing of a firearm while being chased by police because he matched the description of a vehicle theft suspect.
On August 19th, authorities saw Malik Watson walking around Claiborn and Lafayette Street. They took note of him because he matched a description of someone who was involved in a vehicle theft hours earlier. When police approached Watson, he ran and police gave chase on foot.
While running, Watson threw a bag from his person and when police later found it they could feel a handgun through the material of the bag. A background check revealed that he was a convicted felon.
Malik Watson was arrested and charged with felon in possession of a handgun and evading arrest. His bond was set at $6,000.
