Man jailed for pistol-whipping and biting a man who slept with his ex-girlfriend

30-year-old Derrick Cunningham was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism after he threatened to shoot a woman and then bit and pistol-whipped a man that slept with his ex-girlfriend, per report.

On July 6th, Metro Police were called to an apartment where a Demetria Patterson said that she had been threatened by Derrick Cunningham, who left before they arrived. Patterson stated that Cunningham banged on her door with a handgun and when she looked out at the window at him he threatened to shoot into her apartment. When he pulled the trigger, it did not fire and Cunningham told her he did not have bullets. She grabbed her children and hid in the bathroom until officers arrived. Authorities noted damage to Patterson’s door.

On July 7th, Metro Police was dispatched to 823 South 6th Street in regard to a person with a weapon. When they arrived, Javon Stewart told them that Cunningham had just left the residence armed with a handgun. Officers reported noticeable injuries to Stewart’s ear and back. Stewart advised Cunningham had confronted him about having sexual relations with his ex-girlfriend. When the two men fought, Cunningham hit Stewart in the head with a handgun as well as biting his left ear. Nashville Fire Department transported Stewart to Centennial Hospital after he told authorities he wished to prosecute.

On August 2nd, Derrick Cunningham was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism. His bond was set at $22,500.
