Man threatens his mother’s life, found two months later intoxicated in a suspicious area

43-year-old Jenara Higgins was charged with domestic assault and public intoxication after he threatened to kill his mother in May and was found intoxicated outside a closed business nearly two months later.

On May 30th, a domestic disturbance call to 787 Lewis Street led police to speak to Karen Higgins who is the mother of the defendant, Jenara Higgins. She told police that Jenara came into her bedroom that evening and began yelling vulgar things at her and calling her names, waking her up. Then she said that he threatened to kill her putting her in fear for her life. When police arrived at the scene, Jenara fled.

On July 29th, police observed Jenara outside of a closed business close to midnight near Lewis and Lafayette Street. Reportedly, police know this to be an area with high drug activity and burglaries at that time of night. Police stated they witnessed a hand-to-hand transaction between Jenara and another person who hurriedly walked away afterward.

When they made contact with him, he was reported to be unsteady on his feet with slurred speech, red watery eyes, and the smell of alcohol on his breath. Police detained him and ran him through their system and found that he had an active warrant out for a domestic assault that occurred in May.

Jenara Higgins was arrested and charged with domestic assault and public intoxication. His bond was set at $2,500.
