30-year-old Angel Arnau was charged with two counts of child abuse after one of his stepsons escaped their apartment through a window and alerted neighbors that his stepfather was abusing him and his brother.
On August 18th, at 7101 Sonya Drive, a 10-year-old boy escaped his apartment through his bedroom window and alerted neighbors that his stepfather, Angel Arnau, has pushed him and hurt his head. He also said that Arnau hit his 8-year-old brother who was bleeding from the nose. When officers made contact with Arnau he explained that he was having discipline issues with the boys. He said the younger boy was refusing to do his chores and talking back. Arnau claimed he lifted the boy by his arms over a baby gate that was separating them and when he set him back down on the other side he fell to the ground.
The 8-year-old said that he bit his lip causing it to bleed due to the force his step-father had used. Arnau then explained the older boy had thrown a ball at his face and ran out of the apartment. The older boy and his stepfather had a discussion outside and then came back in. Arnau said when they came back in the boy said some words that upset him so he pushed the boy to the ground. The 10-year-old explained that when he was pushed, the back of his head hit the floor but did not show any visible injuries. The 8-year-old had a small cut on his upper lip.
Angel Arnau was arrested and charged with two counts of child abuse. His bond was set at $6,000.
