The theft of merchandise charges happened on December 26th, 2019 when Stewart stole candy, drinks, and allergy medicine from a T-Fuel. Police arrived at 6444 Eatons Creek Road and found surveillance that showed Stewart tucking the items into his sweater and walking out. The value of those items was approximately $50. The officer sent the video out to all police departments in an attempt to identify Stewart. Detective Duke recognized him from a prior aggravated assault that was reported by a woman named Michelle Ryan. She stated that she raised the man and positively identified him through images on July 22nd, 2020. When she did she asked the officer “Yes, that is Tyler. What has he done now?”

On August 11th, less than two weeks before the traffic stop, Stewart was involved in a domestic assault against his great aunt Sara Hunter and cousin Kayla Arana. They spoke to the police and Hunter reported they found him doing drugs in the bathroom and told him to leave. When they did this, he began to yell and punched Arana in the face causing bruising before Hunter split them up. She said that he hit her in the arm and Arana grabbed a pan to defend herself. After the assaults, he fled the home before the police arrived.

Tyler Stewart was arrested and charged with two counts of domestic assault, theft of merchandise, and unlawful drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $7,000.
