41-year-old James Milam was charged with domestic assault, burglary, and theft when he broke into his ex’s house twice by prying open a wrought-iron door, knocking a Plexiglas window out of a door, and stealing her door stops.

On August 19th, James Miram and Ladana Simmons were in a verbal altercation that turned physical when James punched her in the left side of the face. Their children were present in the home, but none witnessed the assault. They used to live together at 2403 Batavia Street. Ladana reported that they were currently separated.

On August 24th, Ladana reported that sometime between the 22nd and 24th, she believed James entered the residence to get some of his belongings. She noticed damage to the wrought iron basement security door where it had been pried open to gain entry. Ladana also noted she believed James had taken three security door stops to be able to come back into the home at his will. He also proceeded to go through the house removing window jacks meant to keep the windows from being opened from the outside. Ladana provided receipts to prove the purchase of the items she believed James had removed.

On the morning of August 31st, when she returned home, Ladana noticed that the wires were cut from the back of the control keyboard and there was also damage to the keypad. She believed that James damaged the keypad because she received a text from him stating that he was in the house and to go ahead and send the police. James entered the residence by knocking a Plexiglas window out of the frame on a wrought iron security door then unlocking the door. There is a current order of protection against James but it has not been served yet. He also currently has outstanding warrants.

James Milam was arrested and charged with domestic assault, burglary, and theft of property less than $1,000. His bond was set at $7,500.
