28-year-old James Walter was charged with vehicular assault and driving on a revoked license after causing a crash on Old Hickory Blvd which sent a person to the Vanderbilt Emergency Department. Later admits he consumed beers and weed.
On September 24th, Metro Nashville Police were dispatched to 1175 Old Hickory Boulevard in response to a motor vehicle accident with injuries. On the scene, authorities spoke with James Walter who was the driver of a car involved in the accident. Officers observed that Walter was alone in his vehicle, had “pinpoint” pupils, and the smell of alcohol on his breath. He admitted to the police that he did not have a valid driver’s license. Two unopened alcoholic drinks were seen in Walter’s passenger-side floorboard. When he was seen walking, Walter appeared unsteady on his feet. Officers noted that he was dozing off while having conversations with paramedics and police.
After a check in the police system, it was confirmed that he had a revoked license from a prior driving under the influence charge in 2012. Walter did not complete field sobriety tests because he was transported to Skyline Medical Center for injuries he received during the accident. Unprovoked, he admitted to authorities that he had consumed alcohol and smoked marijuana that night. An occupant of the vehicle that Walter crashed into, Mrs. Thurman, was transported to the Vanderbilt Emergency Department for treatment of serious bodily injuries. Walter consented to a blood draw.
James Walter was arrested and charged with vehicular assault and driving on revoked. His bond was set at $30,000.
