Man jailed after putting ex-girlfriend in a chokehold trying to get money for shoes

21-year-old Deangelo Lavender was charged with aggravated assault by strangulation after he became upset and strangled his ex-girlfriend when she wouldn’t give him money for shoes.

On January 14th, Metro Nashville Police Officers responded to a possible domestic at 3244 Woodstock Drive. When police arrived they made contact with Roshanda Haynes who advised them that Deangelo Lavender had strangled her. Haynes stated Lavender was upset with her because she refused to give him money for shoes. She told police Lavender attempted to grab her purse then proceeded to place her in a chokehold.

Haynes said Lavender was applying enough pressure to stop her from breathing but she did not lose consciousness. Haynes told police Lavender was inside of the residence but walked down the street when she called the police. Haynes advised police she wanted to request an order of protection and prosecute him for the assault. She was transported to the family safety center for these services.

Deangelo Lavender was arrested and charged with aggravated assault by strangulation. He is jailed in lieu of a $8,000 bond.
