32-year-old William Swift was charged with DUI after he demolished a McDonald’s drive-thru menu and speaker with his Ford and insisted to police that his debit card was his ID.

On October 4th, Goodlettsville Police Department Officer Brittany Schmidt was dispatched to a call at McDonald’s located at 906 Rivergate Parkway in reference to a white Ford pickup that had crashed into the menu. When they arrived on the scene, they found Swift yelling at his phone and stumbling back to his truck.

On approach, Swift stated to officers that he was intoxicated and was trying to call his girlfriend. When asked for ID, he presented his debit card to officers insisting it was his identification. At that time, officers noticed Swift’s bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, alcohol on his breath, and constant swaying. When asked if he’d been drinking that night, Swift stated “he had a lot to drink.”

Officers noted that Swift had 2 previous DUIs in the system and asked him if he would perform a field sobriety test. Swift initially complied but after a few short tests he refused to do anymore, stating “it was his right not to do them.” Due to several indicators and poor performance on field sobriety tests, Swift was taken into custody.

William Swift was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. His bond was set at $5,000.
