Man strangles girlfriend after landing flurry of blows

37-year-old Jared Clayton was charged with aggravated assault after his girlfriend stated he yelled at her, hit her several times, and attempted to strangle her with both of his hands during an argument.

On July 20th, Metro Nashville Police Officers were dispatched to 112 Shelby Street for a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Carrie Mueller who stated she and her boyfriend, Jared Clayton, got into a verbal argument. Jared was not present when officers arrived. She stated Jared was yelling at her and what he was saying upset her. He began to attack her by hitting her in the face and she fought back in self-defense.

He continued to hit her several times in the face causing her to fall to the floor. Carrie stood back up in an attempt to defend herself, when Jared grabbed her neck with both of his hands and tried to strangle her. She reported that she felt pressure, but never fell unconscious. Carrie whacked her boyfriend in the head in an attempt to get him to release her. Once freed, she ran inside their home and phoned authorities.

On October 19th, Jared Clayton was arrested and charged with aggravated assault by strangulation. He was released on a $15,000 bond.
