Wife charged for pulling husband’s ponytail while arguing about divorce paperwork

29-year-old Jomilla Newsom was charged with domestic assault after her husband claimed she hit him in the back of the head and “pulled out his ponytail” during a disagreement about him refusing to sign divorce paperwork.

On October 27th, Metro Nashville Police officers responded to 948 Bordeaux Place due to a report of an assault. David Swiszcz-Washington claimed he and his wife are separated and working on finalizing a divorce. Jomilla Newsom is the former managing editor of Nashville Pride Newspaper. He went to her residence so they could sign some paperwork regarding the divorce and he had an issue with it. David refused to sign it and reported he would first talk to his attorney.

According to the affidavit, Jomilla has been trying to divorce him for years and she felt he kept pushing it back. She got upset and while he was saying goodbye to their daughter, Jomilla sat in his vehicle. When he approached the car he asked her to get out and she declined. He stated she “pulled out his ponytail” hit him in the head, and scratched him. There were no injuries on David, but Jomilla admitted to officers that she pulled his hair and was taken into custody.

Jomilla Newsom was arrested and charged with domestic assault. She was released on a $1,000 bond.
