Fully-clothed man found showering in staff-only area of Hilton Hotel; identifies as “El Chopo”

23-year-old Roberto Cerda was charged with disorderly conduct, two counts of vandalism, and evading arrest after he attempted to smash a McDonald’s window with a rock while police ordered him to stop.

On November 10th, Metro Nashville Police officers were patrolling the area due to reports of a man who had broken the windows of several businesses. Roberto Cerda was spotted on Nolensville Pike and Welshwood Drive walking towards a McDonald’s. Officers watched him walk to the side entrance and return with a rock in hand.

Roberto used the rock in an attempt to shatter the front window of the establishment. He was told several times to stop but refused to do so. When officers grabbed his arm, he forcefully pulled away, and they struggled to detain him. He was later found to have damaged the side entrance of the McDonald’s. Officers noted he continued to be unruly as he spat and kicked at the doors of the patrol car.

On November 12th, Metro Nashville Police officers reported to 121 4th Avenue South, the Hilton Hotel, after receiving reports of a fully-clothed man taking a shower in the staff’s shower room. They reported he was asked to vacate the premises, but he refused, then began to destroy the showers, towel dispensers, walls, and toilet paper rolls. Hotel personnel reported he caused approximately $1,500-$2,000 worth of damage. After police arrived, he refused to give his information, claiming his name was “El Chopo.” He was later identified as Roberto Cerda.

Roberto Cerda was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, evading arrest, and two counts of vandalism. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $12,500 bond.
