Police say Antioch man admitted to strangulation: “I grabbed her throat a couple of times”

24-year-old Jeevan Khatri was charged with aggravated assault by strangulation after officers say he admitted to strangling his girlfriend when she “became too much” and was upset, then told her to go to her mother’s house.

On November 11th, Metro Nashville Police officers were dispatched to a domestic call at 112 Hearthside Way. According to the affidavit, officers made contact with Jeevan Khatri, who told them he and his girlfriend, Samjana Gurung, had been in a verbal altercation when she “became too much,” so he suggested she go to her mother’s house. When Gurung started to yell at him, he told officers he “grabbed her throat a couple of times”. Officers asked if he was trying to strangle her and he said “yea, kinda”.

When officers spoke with Gurung, she said the argument escalated when she was thrown onto the bed and Khatri began to strangle her. She added that she was losing consciousness and had no clue how long she had been strangled. Gurung sustained injuries that supported both individual’s version of the incident.

The couples’ Facebook profiles indicate that it is likely they are actually married and the incident occurred at a residence belonging to Khatri’s parents.

Jeevan Khatri was arrested and charged with aggravated assault by strangulation. He was later released on a $10,000 bond.
