South Nashville woman charged with theft a year after former roommate’s car went missing

33-year-old Marva Nevels was charged with theft of a vehicle after she reportedly sold her roommate’s car to a scrap dealer while she was in the process of moving her property out.

On September 2nd, 2019, Shalethia Horton and Marva Nevels were reportedly living together at 2617 Foster Avenue when an argument ensued. Nevels asked Horton to leave the home. Horton was still in the process of removing her property and returned to the residence to check on her vehicle. She discovered her 2003 Ford Focus was missing on September 8th of 2019 and filed a report with the authorities.

Officers determined that on September 2nd, Nevels contacted Kenneth Curry, a person known to scrap cars. Curry confirmed to authorities that Nevels sold him the Ford for $150. The vehicle was sold to Xpress Salvage in La Vergne, Tennessee, and crushed on September 10th. The estimated value of the vehicle was more than $2,500.

On November 18, 2020, Marva Nevels was arrested and charged with theft of a vehicle. She was later released on a $10,000 bond.
