48-year-old Michelle Railey was charged with child abuse after a 6-year-old she was babysitting before school, told staff that Railey had slapped her when she did not stop watching television.
On February 6th, Michelle Railey was babysitting a 6-year-old girl, who was waiting for the school bus, at her home. When the child refused to listen and stop watching television, Railey became upset and slapped her across the face, causing injury.
Once at school, the child’s teacher discovered her injury. School staff referred the incident to the Department of Children’s Services (DCS) and notified the child’s parents. The juvenile’s statements were consistent with each organization. Railey cooperated with the police but not DCS. Railey has a history of domestic violence and assault.
On November 12th, Michelle Railey was arrested and charged with child abuse. She is currently jailed in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
