43-year-old Mark Scott Bornemann is charged with DUI after police found him inside his crashed vehicle, which landed on its side after a collision on Briley Parkway on March 16th. Bornemann, who is a licensed pilot, had his license to drive on land revoked years ago, and told officers he had taken Gabapentin before driving, but not for any diagnosed injury or illness. Police say he was nodding out, sweating profusely, and couldn’t stay awake during their interview.

Metro Nashville Police and Fire responded to a collision on Briley Parkway at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, where a vehicle driven by Mark Bornemann collided with another vehicle as it was merging near mile marker 8. Bornemann’s vehicle had rolled onto its side, and he was still inside when police arrived and was uninjured. The driver of the vehicle he hit was transported to Centennial Hospital with multiple injuries, however, Bornemann exited his vehicle without assistance.

Police say he continued to fall asleep while speaking to them, and while he was unable to tell them what happened, he repeatedly told them about other crashes he previously had. Police noted his speech was slurred and thick, he was sweating profusely, and his pupils were constricted, indicating likely drug use. Bornemann admitted to taking two Gabapentin capsules before driving but admitted he had not been diagnosed with any illness or injury. A search warrant was granted for his blood. During the investigation, it was learned the Bornemann was driving on a revoked license. In 2019 he was charged with failure to report an accident, driving on a revoked license, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Mark Scott Bornemann was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail, charged with Driving on a Revoked License (2nd Offense), and DUI. He is free on pre-trial release and has no current restrictions on his FAA pilot’s license. The FAA provided a copy of his license information below. He has since moved to Nashville, TN, and has a Donelson Pike address.
