21-year-old Joseph McCombs drunkenly crashed his car on I-65 South Saturday morning. After the impact, a TDOT camera caught him moving from the driver’s seat and into the passenger side of the vehicle. He initially denied being the driver, however, that didn’t last long when confronted with the evidence.

Nashville Fire and Police were dispatched to the crash mid-morning on Saturday. State workers had also called dispatch to relay they observed him exit the driver’s seat and get into the passenger side of the vehicle from the traffic cameras on the interstate. With this knowledge, police conducted an interview, and McCombs initially denied being the driver. Ultimately he was read his rights and admitted that he was the driver of the vehicle.

Police say he smelled of alcohol, was very unsteady when attempting to stand, and showed clues of impairment on field sobriety tests. He refused to submit to blood testing but admitted to the crash while in the back of the patrol car, which an in-car camera captured.
