26-year-old Matthew Waddell is free on an $11,000 bond after Metro Police say they picked him up after he caused a scene at Whiskey Row in downtown Nashville and he then threatened multiple officers, and assaulting officer Kristopher Sutton two different times, once kneeing him in the head, then later headbutting him.
Metro Nashville Police were dispatched to Whiskey Row early Sunday morning after security reported a patron had threatened him and was making statements he wanted to fight other patrons and bouncers at the venue. Officers observed the man, identified as Matthew Waddell, of Athens, AL, and noted he was extremely intoxicated. Waddell pointed his finger in the face of Officer Kristopher Sutton and at his chest, in a “threatening and fighting manner”, repeatedly “invading his personal space” according to an arrest warrant.
Officers attempted to get Waddell to leave peacefully, but he declined and continued to cause a scene and threaten others nearby. As he was being taken into custody for public intoxication and disorderly conduct, Waddell told Officer Mrowiec “I’m going to slap you in the face!”. Police say Waddell intentionally struck his own head against the cage, causing him to be transported to Metro General for medical treatment. During that ride, he also told officers “I’m going to beat your fucking ass”.
While he was being placed in the vehicle, Waddell was able to knee Officer Sutton in the head, and later also headbutted Officer Sutton in the face, causing Suton to get Waddel’s blood in his mouth.
Matthew C. Waddell, 26, was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail at 3:17 a.m. on 08/15. He is charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and assault of an officer. He is free on an $11,100 bond.
