36-year-old Philadelphia tourist James Payton was found “extremely intoxicated” and attempting to fight staff at the Moxy in downtown Nashville in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was immediately irritated with the arrival of officers and stated they should “walk away from him, right now!”. Despite attempts to get him to his room, he stated he wasn’t going anywhere. Officers understood the assignment and took Payton into custody, charging him with public intoxication and disorderly conduct. He is free on pre-trial release.

| On 10/23/2021 officers responded to a dispatched call for service at 110 3rd Ave S (Moxy Hotel) for a disorderly person. Upon arrival, officers made contact with security at the location who stated the suspect Mr. Matthew Payton was extremely intoxicated and attempted to fight staff members at the location. Officers made contact with Mr. Payton was extremely agitated, slurring his speech, unsteady on his feet, and had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. Mr. Payton was immediately irritated with officers stating that they needed to “walk away from him right now.” Officers located Mr. Payton’s girlfriend who attempted to get him to go with her back to their room but Mr. Payton refused, stating he wasn’t going anywhere. Officers determined Mr. Payton to be a danger to himself and others if left unattended and was taken into custody. |
