28-year-old Lindsay Stooksbury remains jailed in lieu of a $25,000 bond after refusing to return a Nashville woman’s vehicle, which she had initially borrowed using the peer-to-peer car-sharing service, Turo. She blocked the owner’s phone and disabled the vehicle’s GPS, but the vehicle was eventually located in Florida.

| On 9/8/21 the victim made a motor vehicle theft report for her gray 2021 Lexus NX. The victim stated the defendant had been previously allowed to use the vehicle through an internet-based rental application, TURO. On 9/2/21 the victim allowed the defendant to borrow the vehicle without being charged any rental fees. The defendant was to return the vehicle on 9/4/21. On 9/4/21 the defendant notified the victim that she returned the vehicle to its parking spot in the victim’s garage on 11th Ave N. Later on the same date, the victim went to the garage and was unable to locate her vehicle. The victim contacted the defendant and asked about the vehicle. The defendant told the victim she still had the vehicle. The victim told the defendant to return the vehicle or she would report it stolen. The defendant blocked the victim’s calls. On 9/5/21 the victim used her husband’s phone to contact the defendant. The defendant answered and stated she would return the vehicle that day. The defendant never showed up with the vehicle. The victim was able to track her vehicle by GPS. The GPS tracker was disabled after this last contact with the defendant. On 9/14/21 the victim’s vehicle was recovered in St. Lucie County, FL. Officers with the recovering agency were able to interview the individuals who occupied the victim’s vehicle. The driver advised officers that she had received the vehicle from the defendant. |
