53-year-old Deborah Scales took a DNA test which revealed the man she believed to have been her biological father her entire life was not her real father. Extremely upset, she confronted her mother about the results while assisting her with rice water therapy, as her father had just died. Court records and an investigation by Adult Protective Services reveal she threw the warm rice water on her mother, set off her LifeAlert bracelet during a physical struggle, and threatened to punch her elderly mother if she told the LifeAlert operator anything was wrong. She then took $10,000 from her mother’s bank account. She is charged with felony theft, interference with a 911 call, and domestic assault. She is free on a $29,000 bond.

ARREST WARRANT / AFFIDAVIT: |
The victim is the mother of the defendant. The victim was confronted by the defendant after she received results from a DNA test indicating the person she believed to be her biological father her entire life was not. The defendant was extremely upset, especially since her father had just passed away. The defendant was at her mother’s home assisting her mother with rice water therapy at the time of the altercation. During their discussion, she threw the warm water for the rice therapy on the victim’s chest. The victim attempted to call 911, but the defendant took the victim’s phone away. When the victim’s phone was taken away, she stated she took the defendant’s purse. The defendant snatched the purse causing a large bruise to the victim’s left arm. The victim stated she was then pushed and hit the victim’s life alert necklace noticed she tried to contact 911 and called her to make sure she was okay. The defendant made a fist and motioned as if she would strike her mother if she told them she needed help; therefore, the victim said she was okay. An adult protective service referral was generated and forwarded to the vulnerable adult protection investigative team. A home visit was conducted days after the incident and the victim still had injuries consistent with her statements. Those injuries were photographed During that visit, the victim also stated her daughter had withdrawn approximately $10,000.00 without her permission from her bank account. Her bank records were subpoenaed which showed $10,000.00 being withdrawn from her account on 5/7/21. The victim believe this was a form of retaliation for the defendant finding out about her father. The victim stated her daughter was the only person besides herself that was added to the account; therefore, the defendant is also being charged with theft of property. |
