Metro Nashville Police found 37-year-old Laquita Cole unconscious and slumped over the wheel of her running vehicle just before midnight Monday near the intersection of Elm Hill Pike and Donelson Pike. Responding officers could not awaken her, however, Nashville Fire eventually got her to a semi-alert state with a sternum rub. Police say she didn’t know where she was geographically, but stated she wasn’t tired and had no medical issues. Indicators of both alcohol and marijuana use were present in the vehicle, however, officers seemed to suspect another substance was also on board. She continued to nod off during the arrest process, and had to be roused back to an alert state. She was transported to General Hospital for a blood draw, then to booking, where she was charged with DUI and freed on pre-trial release. Cole is well-known in the city for her designer cakes and food plates, with over 12,000 followers just on Instagram, where she posts the daily dishes for ordering. Hours prior to her arrest, she had posted “My life is like a movie, I make my own stunts”.

| On 11/15/2021 at approximately 2350 hours, your affiant was dispatched to the intersection of elm hill pike and Donelson pike for a reported driver slumped over the wheel. Arriving on scene, your affiant observed the defendant, Ms. Laquita Cole, unconscious in the driver’s seat of her vehicle. The vehicle was located in the center lane of travel, running, less than twenty feet from the intersection. Attempts at knocking on the window and calling out to Ms. Cole were unsuccessful, however your affiant was able to see the defendant breathing. Nashville Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and roused Ms. Cole with a sternum rub. Ms. Cole was confused and did not seem to know where she was. She stated that she was at elm hill pike and Lebanon pike, two roads which do not intersect. She had bloodshot eyes and her breath smelled slightly of alcoholic beverage. Your affiant also detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Additionally, a small amount of what appeared to be marijuana shake was observed in the center console. The defendant stated she was not having a medical emergency and did not have any medical condition that would impair her or cause her to fall asleep. She was asked if she had slept, or was extremely tired, and she stated that she was not. She gave erratic and irrelevant answers to questions asked and had to be prompted multiple times for responses. She agreed to conduct field sobriety tests, and indicated 6/6 indicators on the horizontal gaze nystagmus test, 5/8 indicators on the walk and turn test, and 2/4 indicators on the one leg stand test. Additionally, your affiant administered the advanced roadside impaired driving enforcement battery of tests, and she showed a lack of convergence, eyelid tremors, body tremors, swaying, difficulty touching her nose, and difficulty keeping her overall balance. Additionally, the defendant showed a slowness to follow instructions, and an overall state of impairment, as well as behaviors consistent with an impaired individual. Additionally, throughout the arrest process, the defendant fell asleep multiple times and had to be roused. A search warrant was sought and granted for the subject’s blood evidence. The warrant was served at Nashville general hospital. |
