21-year-old Baldemar Rivera faces multiple charges after a wild scene in downtown Nashville late Friday night. Police initially responded to what they believed to be an attempted carjacking. The victims stated a young male jumped into the passenger side of her vehicle. Believing she was about to be carjacked, she fled the vehicle and took the keys with her. A male from the vehicle then tased the young man, identified as Rivera, to extract him from the vehicle. Rivera then came back toward the male in an aggressive manner and was tased a second time, causing him to flee the scene. He was spotted nearby and taken into custody. During the incident, a 3rd victim came forward stating Rivera had kicked a dent in his vehicle. Rivera was charged with public intoxication, vandalism, and assault. He is free on a $5,000 bond.

COMPLAINT:
2021-0639614
ARREST WARRANT / AFFIDAVIT:
On 12/17/2021, officers responded to 11th Ave N & Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd regarding an attempted carjacking. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the initial victims, who stated that a male wearing a gray shirt and jeans jumped into the passenger side of their vehicle while the female victim was inside of it. This caused her to fear imminent harm, so the victim ran out of her vehicle with the car keys while the male victim attempted to get him out of the vehicle.

The male victim then used a taser to extract the defendant from the vehicle. The victim stated that the defendant then walked towards him in an intimidating manner, making aggressive movements causing him to believe he was going to attack him, so the male victim used his taser again and attempted to get away from the defendant. The defendant then ran on foot towards the 11th Ave n & Dr. MLK Blvd intersection.

While speaking with officers, the male victim stated that he saw the defendant across the street. Officers then approached the defendant, who matched the description of the suspect.

The defendant appeared to be very intoxicated, his speech was slurred and he could not keep his balance. Officers were then approached by a third victim, who stated that the defendant kicked a dent in his truck. Officers then took the defendant into custody for Public Intoxication because he was a danger to other person’s property and he was not able to care for himself. Officers read the defendant his Miranda Rights; he refused to speak with officers.
