30-year-old Eric L Jenkins, who isn’t allowed to possess a gun due to his multiple gun and drug-related felonies, domestic violence convictions, and Community Corrections probation status out of Murfreesboro, approached an 18-wheeler which was parked on the public roadway in front of Jazzy’s, which is a club that employs Jenkins as a security guard, with a handgun holstered on his hip despite the state confirming he is not allowed to possess even an unarmed security license. He told the truck driver to move, and when he refused, Jenkins went to his white Ford Crown Victoria 30 yards away and retrieved an AR-15 rifle, pointed it at the 18-wheeler, and threatened to “swiss cheese” the truck if it didn’t move.

The truck driver called police, who responded to the scene and attempted to interview Jenkins, however, the manager of Jazzy’s lied to police and said he wasn’t inside. Once officers prepared his Crown Victoria to be towed, he magically appeared coming out of the club and was taken into custody. In addition to his new felony charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against the truck driver and passenger, he’s charged with prohibited person possession charges, two additional outstanding warrants, and Murfreesboro Community Corrections has a warrant also for his arrest, in case his posts his $27,000 bond in Nashville.

COMPLAINT:
2021-0614016
ARREST WARRANT / AFFIDAVIT:
On 12/01/2121 officers responded to 1520 Hampton St for a report of a person with an assault rifle. The victims drive a tractor-trailer and had parked it on the side of Hampton St near 1520, which is Jazzy’s nightclub. They stated that the defendant approached them in their truck and asked them to move it. The defendant represented himself as security for Jazzy’s and was armed with a handgun holstered on his hip. The victims refused to move the truck, stating that they were on a public road.

The victims stated that the argument got heated and finally the defendant stated that he was going to “swiss cheese the truck”. The defendant went back to his vehicle, a white Ford Crown Victoria parked about 30 yards away, and removed an assault-style rifle from the trunk. The victims state that he then took aim at the truck, with them both inside it. The defendant then lowered the rifle, put it in his vehicle, and went inside Jazzy’s.

Officers located the white Crown Victoria unoccupied. An AR-15 rifle was in plain view on the center console of the vehicle as claimed by the victims. Officers tried to make contact with the defendant at Jazzy’s but the manager stated that he was not inside. Detectives responded to the scene. They reviewed video footage from the Super 8 Motel across the street. Det. Bartello states that While the video is dark and zoomed out, making it difficult to confirm that the defendant is carrying a rifle, the defendant can be seen taking a shooting stance with his legs and
raising his arm in the direction of the truck.

The Crown Victoria was locked so officers initiated a vehicle tow so the vehicle could be held for a search warrant. Shortly before the tow truck arrived, the defendant emerged from Jazzy’s to speak with officers. Under Miranda, the defendant denied having threatened the victims or having pointed the rifle at them but did acknowledge that he had retrieved the rifle from the trunk and put it in the center console after the argument. He stated that placing the rifle there is part of his routine for his job.
