19-year-old Te’Quan is charged with possession of brass knuckles, vandalism, interference with a 911 call, and domestic assault, after his ex-girlfriend, Johnyae Hooten, says he punched her in the face, raped her, and smashed her phone when she attempted to call 911 to report it. Cartwright is free on a $5,000 bond.
Court documents state the couple was no longer together, however, the victim invited Te’Quan over and they were laying on the bed when he became upset over a joke in a group chate they are both a part of. She says he then stood up and smacked her in the cheek, punched her in the mouth and stomach, then took her to the ground and forced himself upon and inside her.
She says after the rape she attempted to call the police, however, he grabbed her phone and threw it across the parking lot, damaging it, then tossing her laptop, too. As she went to the kitchen to get a knife for self-defense, he grabbed the knife and broke it. She was able to call a friend using an Alexa speaker, who then called 911 for her.
Te’Quan told police the sex was consensual and states that after they had consensual sex he noticed she was messaging another man, which angered him, and admitted to breaking the phone and laptop. During a search of his person during arrest, officers located brass knuckles in his backpack, which he was wearing.
He was not charged with rape, however, he was jailed on charges of domestic assault, vandalism, interference with a 911 call, and possession of a prohibited weapon. He is free on a $5,000 bond.

| THE VICTIM STATED THE DEFENDANT WAS HER EX-BOYFRIEND. THE VICTIM TOLD OFFICERS SHE INVITED THE DEFENDANT OVER. THE VICTIM STATED THE TWO WERE LAYING IN BED, ON THEIR PHONES WHEN THE DEFENDANT GOT UPSET AND JEALOUS OVER A JOKE IN A GROUP THEY ARE A PART OF. THE VICTIM STATED THE DEFENDANT GOT UPSET AND SMACKED HER LEFT CHEEK, PUNCHED HER IN THE MOUTH AND STOMACH. THE DEFENDANT TOOK THE VICTIM TO THE GROUND. THE VICTIM HAD VISIBLE INJURIES OF A SCRATCH WITH BLOOD ON HER LEFT ELBOW AND RIGHT LEG. THE VICTIM ALSO HAD AN ABRASION ON HER INNER LOWER LIP. THE VICTIM STATED THAT THE DEFENDANT RAPED HER IN THE BEDROOM BY FORCING HIMSELF ON HER. THE VICTIM STATED AFTER THE RAPE, SHE GRABBED HER PHONE TO CALL THE POLICE. AS THE VICTIM WAS ATTEMPTING TO CALL THE POLICE, THE DEFENDANT GRABBED HER PHONE, AND WOULD NOT LET HER HAVE IT BACK. THE VICTIM TOLD OFFICERS THE DEFENDANT TOOK HER PHONE AND THREW IT ACROSS THE PARKING LOT DAMAGING IT. THE DEFENDANT THEN GRABBED HER LAPTOP AND THREW IT, DAMAGING IT AS WELL. POLICE OBSERVED THE PHONE HAD A SMASHED SCREEN AND THE LAPTOP HAD VISIBLE DAMAGE AS WELL. THE PHONE AND LAPTOP WERE WORTH LESS THAN $1000. THE VICTIM STATED SHE WENT TO THE KITCHEN TO GRAB A KNIFE AND TOLD THE DEFENDANT TO LEAVE. THE DEFENDANT GRABBED THE KNIFE AND BROKE IT. THE VICTIM GRABBED ANOTHER KNIFE, AND THE DEFENDANT LEFT. THE VICTIM WAS ABLE TO CALL THE WITNESS, USING AN ALEXA SPEAKER. THE VICTIM TOLD THE WITNESS THAT SHE NEEDED HELP AND HE CALLED 911. THE WITNESS COULD HEAR LOUD BANGING IN THE BACKGROUND AND A MALE VOICE. THE VICTIM STATED SHE THEN LET THE DEFENDANT BACK INTO THE RESIDENCE KNOWING THAT POLICE WOULD BE ON THE WAY. THE DEFENDANT STATED HE HAD CONSENSUAL SEX WITH THE VICTIM. HE STATED AFTER THE SEX, HE NOTICED THE VICTIM WAS MESSAGING ANOTHER MAN WHICH ANGERED HIM. THE DEFENDANT ADMITTED TO BREAKING THE CELL PHONE AND LAPTOP. DURING A CUSTODIAL ARREST SEARCH OF THE DEFENDANT’S BELONGINGS, OFFICERS FOUND BRASS KNUCKLES IN THE DEFENDANT’S BACKPACK WHICH HE WAS WEARING. |
