Cheer Coach Greg Shannon charged with late-night DUI in downtown Nashville

Police say 41-year-old Cheer Coach Gregory Shannon blew through a stop sign at 4th & Harrison in downtown Nashville late Friday night. Officers conducted a traffic stop and report that Shannon smelled of alcohol. Shannon claimed the officer was just smelling a Halls cough drop, and not alcohol, because he hadn’t consumed any. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests, and during them, one of his female friends approached the scene. When questioned, the woman stated that Shannon had indeed been drinking. He then admitted to drinking “a beer” before driving. Shannon was transported to booking and charged with DUI.
