DUI: Brent Kitchens drinks beer before crashing into brick wall

22-year-old Brent Kitchens sped northbound on Nolensville Pike before swerving and colliding with a brick wall on the morning of February 7th. Officers witnessed this, and when they approached him, he stated he “messed up” and admitted to drinking alcoholic beverages at his friend’s house before driving. He was visibly intoxicated as he consented to sobriety tests, performed poorly, and provided a blood sample after being informed of implied consent. Officers located an open bottle of beer in his center console, and then he was taken into custody for driving under the influence and an open container violation.

Jalen Transley performs U-turn across multiple lanes, crashes car attempting to flee from police

20-year-old Jalen Transley failed to use his turn signal when turning right onto Murfreesboro Road from Hamilton Church Road late January 28th. Officers observed this and initiated a traffic stop. Transley pulled over before driving off in an attempt to flee. Transley then caused a crash when he performed a U-turn across multiple lanes. Officers had ordered all occupants to exit the vehicle when Transley’s two passengers quickly jumped out of the car and fled the scene. Transley exited the vehicle but did not flee and was detained. A subsequent search of Transley and his vehicle yielded marijuana paraphernalia and an open container of alcohol. Further investigation showed Transley had a suspended license and an outstanding failure-to-book warrant. Transley was taken into custody for driving with a suspended license, an open container violation, reckless driving, the unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, and evading arrest.

Rainee Gregg blows 0.295% BAC after Briley Parkway crash

29-year-old Rainee Gregg had a single-car accident where she collided with a concrete guardrail near Briley Parkway and Kenton Place in the early hours of January 22nd. Gregg was sitting in the driver’s seat when the officers arrived. They opened the door and noticed several open Budweiser cans on the driver’s side floorboard. Gregg was unsteady as she walked away from the vehicle with a minor scratch on her head but refused medical attention. Officers observed her to be visibly intoxicated as she admitted to drinking three cocktails at a company party. She consented to sobriety tests, performed poorly, refused to do another test, and told them that this would be the time that she called an Uber. They detained her, and read her implied consent, then she agreed to provide a breath sample, which resulted in 0.295% BAC. She further explained that she was coming from Jasper’s and had consumed 3-4 tequila sodas at a post-holiday company party. Gregg was taken into custody for an open container violation and driving under the influence.

Kevin Garfias charged with DUI after speeding & weaving through traffic

23-year-old Kevin Garfias was speeding down Nolensville road and weaving between lanes early Sunday morning when he passed officers who were on an unrelated call. A traffic stop was conducted near Radnor Street, and Garfias was reportedly visibly intoxicated when speaking with officers. An open beer was also observed in the cup holder of the vehicle. He refused all field sobriety tests, and admitted to coming from a bar — but stated he did not consume any alcohol. Another bottle of open alcohol was also found in the vehicle during a search. Garfias was taken into custody and charged with DUI.

DUI: 19-year-old Alec Jacobs found unconscious in his vehicle after drinking 1 White Claw

19-year-old Alec Michael Jacobs blocked a lane of travel lane near Old Hickory Boulevard and Health Park Drive early January 1st. Jacobs drove off the right side of the roadway, over the curb. Officers observed this and noticed the keys in the ignition while the car was still in “drive.” Jacobs was unconscious, drooling in the driver’s seat, with an opened White Claw in his lap. They had to shake the car and yell at him to wake him up. Jacobs was visibly intoxicated as he admitted to consuming the White Claw in the vehicle. Jacobs was also unaware of when he had left Murfreesboro. He consented to sobriety tests, performed poorly, and provided a breath sample, resulting in 0.084% BAC. Jacobs was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence, an open container violation, and underage alcohol consumption.

DUI: Cleophius Counts drinks 24oz Busch can while driving

67-year-old Cleophius Counts was stopped at Exit 1 for a moving violation on the morning of December 13th. Officers observed a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle as they approached Counts and asked him to exit the car. Counts admitted to having a 24oz Busch beer can in the driver’s side door that he had been drinking. Counts consented to sobriety tests, performed poorly, and was taken into custody for driving under the influence and an open can violation.

DUI: Jonathan Murray drives on wrong side of the road

30-year-old Jonathan Murray was driving the wrong way on Robinson Road toward Madison in the early hours of December 10th. A citizen noticed this, stopped Murray, and removed him from the vehicle to sit on the grass as he called the ambulance. Murray’s car had damage to the bumper and a flat tire. Medics arrived and placed him in the back of the ambulance, where officers noticed him to be visibly intoxicated. They questioned him as he admitted to driving from a hotel in the gulch and having two shots of alcohol. Officers located a nearly empty drink can in Murray’s cupholder and a six-pack of Heineken with three beers left in the backseat. Murray was transported to the hospital and medically cleared in less than thirty minutes. He refused to take sobriety tests and was read implied consent. Murray was taken into custody for driving under the influence, open container violation, and implied consent.

DUI: Musician Joshua Gallagher runs red light after having “A Couple shots of Tequila”

33-year-old Joshua Gallagher failed to stop at a red light on Demonbreun Street in the late hours of December 2nd. After observing this, officers conducted a traffic stop and noticed Gallagher was slow to stop. Gallagher immediately placed both hands out of his windows even though officers did not command so, nor did he have any weapons in the vehicle. He was visibly intoxicated as he admitted to knowing why he was pulled over and to having two tall beers and “a couple shots of tequila.” Officers Mirandized Gallagher, and he refused to take sobriety tests without a lawyer present. He was taken into custody for driving under the influence and implied consent. Additionally, officers searched his vehicle before having it towed. They discovered an open, nearly empty beer can under his front seat, so Gallagher was also charged with an open container violation.

DUI: Matthew Keaffaber pours beer in center console to hide it from police

36-year-old Matthew Keaffaber was driving on Gallatin Pike with his headlights turned off on November 8th. Officers observed this and conducted a traffic stop. Officers noticed Keaffaber moving around and getting out of his seat while approaching his vehicle. Keaffaber was visibly intoxicated when officers spoke with him, and he consented to sobriety tests, on which he performed poorly. Officers had probable cause to search Keaffaber’s vehicle, which led to them locating an open beer container in the backseat and beer poured into the center console. Keaffaber was taken into custody for driving under the influence and an open container violation.

Tralarrious Harrison crashes into police officer’s car; charged with DUI

21-year-old Tralarrious Harrison crashed his girlfriend’s black Sedan into an officer’s vehicle at the intersection of Dickerson Pk and Ewing Dr. on October 21st. Officers responded to the scene and observed a male get out of the passenger side of the Sedan and flee the scene. Harrison was visibly intoxicated as officers approached him and noticed he did not have shoes on before transporting him to General Hospital. Officers spoke with Harrison, and before they could ask him, he told them that he “was not the driver of the vehicle,” that he “messed his girlfriend’s car up,” that he was “extremely intoxicated,” and that he “exited the driver’s side after the crash.” Officers found a 24 oz Coors Light can with beer still in it and a plastic bag with 6.66 grams of a marijuana-like substance. Harrison was taken into custody for possession, driving under the influence, and an open container violation.
