Tony Spurlock arrested during MNPD’s “Illegal Camping Patrol” in downtown Nashville

Metro Nashville Police Officer Garrett Short woke up 51-year-old Tony Spurlock as he slept on the bank of the Cumberland River at 11 a.m. on February 14. Officers noted they were conducting “extra patrols for illegal camping” as part of the quality of life team at Central Precinct. Officers noticed the no trespassing signs and that Spurlock had a previous warning, so they took him into custody for criminal trespassing. During a search incident to the arrest of the sleeping man, officers located two glass pipes on his person and additionally charged him with possession of drug paraphernalia. This was his first arrest in Nashville.
