19-year-old Austin Mayes was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assaulting an officer, reckless endangerment, and resisting arrest when he got in a fight with his grandma, officers, and a salesman because he and his girlfriend broke up.

On June 16th, salesman Carmine Gallo was in the home of Austin Mayes’ grandmother Joy Williams when he was alerted by a gun in Mayes’ waistband. According to affidavits, before leaving, Mr. Gallo witnessed Mayes’ “chest up” to his grandmother and yell “shut the fuck up!” in her face. When Williams attempted to walk away Mayes fired the gun three times into the air prompting Gallo to run for cover on a nearby porch. When Mayes caught sight of him he also threatened Gallo “What the fuck you staring at? Motherfucker, I’ll come over there!” When officers arrived on the scene Mayes explained to them that he was upset that he and his girlfriend had broken up. Officers Cheng and Quirouette secured the weapon, a 9mm Glock, and six unspent rounds.

After being detained and stowed into a patrol car for transport, Mayes slipped his cuffs to the front despite being told not to multiple times. When advised the handcuff would be secured behind his back again Mayes told officers “get all your little boys back here.” He pulled away while being cuffed again and threatened to “break things” while kicking around, pushing officers to restrain his legs. To avoid restraint Mayes hooked his feet on the cage, despite eventually ceding his feet to her, he decided to kick Officer Quirouette while she was restraining his second ankle.

Austin Mayes was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assaulting an officer, reckless endangerment, and resisting arrest. He is jailed in lieu of a $15,000 bond.
