55-year-old Stacey Murphy, the COO of the Tennessee Mental Health Consumers’ Association (TMHCA), is accused of repeatedly “rubbing her breasts” on a female employee, touching her inappropriately, forcing her to go to the Dive Motel with her, and being constantly drunk while at the office. When the employee asked her to stop touching her inappropriately, she reportedly responded “What if I can’t?”. Murphy is free on a $6,500 bond.

| On 08/29/2021 I, Officer Mooney, responded to [the victim’s residence] in reference to a talk to officer call. Upon arrival, I spoke with Amanda Harris, who stated that she had been receiving harassing phone calls from her boss, Stacey Murphy, all day. Harris also stated that Murphy had unwantingly touched her sexually on several occasions. Harris stated that she began working for Tennessee Mental Health Consumers Association on June 1st. Harris stated that Murphy, the COO of the company, told her that she would have to go out with her. Harris stated that on one occasion the two went to the Dive Motel in East Nashville together. When Harris arrived Murphy was extremely intoxicated and rubbed her breasts on Harris’ breasts unwantingly. (Harris was advised that she would have to report this sexual contact to MNPD as it was outside of our jurisdiction). Harris stated that from that point on Murphy would hug her and rub her breasts onto hers often at the workplace without her consent. Harris stated that this has happened roughly 10-15 times since the beginning of June. Harris stated that she knows it happened on the afternoons of June 3rd, June 4th, June 11th, and July 7th. Harris stated that Murphy often comes to work intoxicated or drinks excessive amounts of alcohol while at work. Harris stated that Murphy had asked her to go with her to the American Legion on August 24th. Harris stated that she felt uncomfortable with this and asked if they could do a rain check because she had a headache. Murphy became visibly upset with her, but stated that was fine. Harris stated that when she came to work on August 27th she could not see any emails, as if her account was not working. Harris stated that when she went to leave the workplace she noticed that there was vomit all over the floor of the bathroom, which she and Murphy share as they are the only ones in that office space. Harris stated that she sent an email to Murphy asking about why she wasn’t receiving emails and checking to make sure she was okay because of the vomit. Murphy then called her at 7:19 pm that night which she ignored because she was off of work. Harris stated that today, August 29th, Murphy called her nine times throughout the day. Harris stated that Murphy called at 12:39 pm which she missed, 12:46 pm which lasted 36 minutes, 1:35 pm twice and left a voicemail, 2:11 pm which she missed, 2:12 pm which she missed, 2:13 pm which lasted 10 minutes, 2:26 pm which lasted 55 minutes, and 3:38 pm which lasted 14 minutes. Harris recorded the phone calls, some of which I listened to. In these phone calls, Murphy can be heard with slurred speech and not making much sense, sounding intoxicated. Murphy can be heard demanding to know why Harris accused her of vomiting in the bathroom. Murphy goes on about this for an excessive amount of time. Harris can be heard asking Murphy to keep things professional at work, to which Murphy responds that Harris will need to refer to her as “ma’am” and say “yes ma’am” and “get things done” and “you may not like it.” Harris stated that in another phone call she asks Murphy to stop touching her unwantingly, to which Murphy responds “what if I can’t stop.” Harris stated that there have been other ex-employees who have complained of the same things and that no one works there long because of the hostile environment. Harris stated that she does not feel safe returning to work as it is just the two of them in the office. Harris stated that Murphy is aware of her address and does not feel safe at home either, as she is afraid that Murphy may retaliate in some way. Harris stated that she will be seeking a restraining order against Murphy and she does not care if she loses her job over this, she just wants to feel safe. |
