24-year-old Nirav Rajeshkumar Patel was involved in a two-vehicle crash on Hobson Pike late March 24th. Officers arrived and spoke with Patel, who initially advised them that he was unsure how the collision occurred since he was “asleep in the rear passenger seat.” While officers tried to clarify who the driver was, Patel kept telling them he was only a passenger before later admitting he drove during the collision. Then, he told officers that he only lied due to being scared. Patel told officers he was trying to turn left and drove across the oncoming traffic lane, causing the accident. Two of Patel’s passengers were transported to nearby hospitals, suffering from multiple broken bones and a spinal injury. Both occupants of the other vehicle involved were taken to the hospital with body pains and a fractured foot. They spoke with officers and provided a statement similar to Patel’s regarding the accident. Patel was cited for the incident that day. Patel was booked on the citation of failing to yield on April 17th.
