Nashville man charged for drugs in Clarksville after being stopped over license plate border

47-year-old James McGowan was charged with possession of marijuana for resale, simple possession, possession of a firearm during a felony, unlawful drug paraphernalia, and improper display of plates when a drug task for initiated a traffic stop because of a plastic license plate border.

On May 28th, the 19th Judicial District Drug Task Force stopped James McGowan because the plastic border around his license plate obscured the plate. According to the affidavit, McGowan told authorities he had a gun in the vehicle and also disclosed the presence of “weed” and “ice”.

Agent Charles Bryant noted that a search of his blue Nissan Versa produced a .22 revolver, 30 grams of cannabis, 7 grams of cannabinoid vape cartridges, 2 diazepam pills, plastic zipper bags, and a black scale.
