30-year-old Clayton Chitwood was charged with vandalism when he was awoken by a stranger on a Segway and tried to fight him When the man stepped off his transporter, Chitwood smashed the Segway on the concrete, destroying it.
On August 23rd, officers went to Broadway and 2nd Avenue near Rock Bottom on a call for service involving Sammie Bester and Clayton Chitwood. Bester stated that around 9:00 a.m. he was riding his Segway along 2nd Avenue when he noticed Chitwood asleep on the stoop at the corner of 2nd and Broadway.
He advised that he woke Chitwood up to ask him if he needed anything. This prompted Chitwood to become hostile and start swinging at Bester. To avoid Chitwood’s onslaught of punches, Bester stepped off of his Segway. Chitwood grabbed the personal transporter, slamming it against the sidewalk and wall, destroying it. He was placed into custody after innocent bystanders intervened to keep them separated until police arrived.
Clayton Chitwood was arrested and charged with vandalism. He is jailed in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
