Jovante Robinson charged in assault of girlfriend over phone

38-year-old Jovante Robinson was charged with domestic assault after police spoke to his ex-girlfriend at 7th St on August 19th. The victim, Dannielle Young, told police that she and Robinson were in a relationship, which she ended earlier that day. She said Robinson lives with his mother two doors down, and they argued about her phone. Robinson allegedly became agitated and demanded that she open her phone. When she refused, things turned physical; he grabbed the phone, both fell to the ground, and she says he hit her in the face several times and attempted to strangle her. The victim told police that Robinson struck her lip and face during this confrontation, causing her lip to bleed. She also stated that she broke free from his grip during the altercation and told him to leave. As he was leaving, he paused and grabbed her shirt to pull her outside. Young resisted and told him that she did not want to leave with him but said that she would let him look at her phone if he left. Robinson left the residence, and she then locked the door behind him until police arrived.
