Smith told police that she and Bender had a qualm earlier in the day. She continued by telling the officer that she was in the passenger seat of a vehicle at 2707 O’Neal Drive. A man by the name of Karl Terry approached her and assaulted her while Bender was watching. Smith then exited the vehicle and began rushing towards the residence. At this time she said she saw Bender chase behind her with a weighted sock with unknown contents as a weapon.

Ellison watched the incident from inside the home and let Smith inside, immediately closing the door behind her. After Smith made it into the house, she and Ellison both watched Bender and Terry enter a black Dodge Avenger and leave the area. Police took Ellison’s statement that described the incident exactly as Smith did. They also reported that there were no visible injuries to the victim.

Latayja Bender was arrested and charged for assault. Her bond was set at $1,000.
