Stop of stolen vehicle turns into foot chase; yields marijuana and revoked license

21-year-old Markquett Martin was charged with theft, possession of marijuana, driving on a revoked license, evading, and resisting arrest after he was caught driving a stolen vehicle and attempted to run from police.

On August 27th, officers observed Markquett Martin driving a red Ford Taurus on 23rd Avenue North. A search of the vehicle’s plate came back to be stolen, so the vehicle was stopped in an alley behind 2504 Delk Avenue. Once at a full and complete stop, Martin got out of the vehicle and began running on foot. Police managed to grab him as he was trying to climb over a concrete wall.

Martin resisted arrest by trying to pull away and hide his hands so that he couldn’t be put in handcuffs. A search of Martin’s person yielded a leafy substance consistent with marijuana with a weight of 12.2 grams. Martin was also found to have a revoked driver’s license and an active probation violation warrant. Martin was taken into custody without further incident.

Markquett Martin was arrested and charged with theft, possession of marijuana, driving on a revoked license, evading, and resisting arrest. His bond was set at $19,000.
