Woman whips and punches child to ‘discipline’ her after asking for help with schoolwork

40-year-old Monalisa Sherley was charged with child abuse after she punched and whipped her stepsister’s daughter with a belt to “discipline” her when she asked for help with her virtual schooling.

On August 27th, officers arrived at 2404 25th Avenue North in response to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a juvenile female who advised police that she had been having difficulty with her online schooling and reached out to family members for help. The minor stated that her step-aunt, Monalisa Sherley, became upset and began to whip her with a belt and punched her.

The child’s mother was a witness to the incident. Monalisa Sherley claimed that she had been disciplining her step-niece however, the mother told police that she had never given Monalisa permission to discipline her daughter.

Monalisa Sherley was arrested and charged with child abuse. Her bond was set at $2,500.
