44-year-old Rick Flores, and 41-year-old Derrick James, are both charged with felony drug possession – and an additional felony firearm charge for James – after an altercation in downtown Nashville escalated to guns being pulled.

On January 5th at 4:45 a.m. Metro police were dispatched to 3rd Avenue South and Demonbreun Street after an altercation occurred between Rick Flores[fb], Derrick James, and multiple other patrons inside a restaurant that ended with guns being drawn. Several witnesses stated that the altercation became physical and that Derrick pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at a patron. He and Rick then fled in a blue honda accord traveling northbound on 3rd Avenue South and were stopped at the intersection of 3rd Ave S and Symphony Place.

Once officers pulled over the vehicle and made contact with Rick and Derrick the police conducted a Carroll search of the vehicle. During the search, they found a handgun in the driverside door of the vehicle to which Derrick admitted to being in the possession of. There was also nearly half an ounce of cocaine (12 grams) found in the center console; to which neither Derrick nor Rick admitted to possessing. Since the cocaine was located in the center consul where both parties could easily access it, they were both charged possession of the drug. Rick and Derrick were then transported to booking without incident.

Rick Flores was charged with felony drug possession and released after posting a $30,000 bond. Derrick James was also charged with felony drug possession as well as felony possession of a firearm with intent and was released after posting a $45,000.00 bond.
