19-year-old Zachary Gibbs was jailed on December 29th after causing a crash on I-40. Gibbs told officers on the scene that he lost control after a box truck collided with him in a road rage incident. Several witnesses corroborated his story. Gibbs’ wife and 1-year-old daughter were in the car during the collision. Both were transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. During a search of the vehicle, officers located the cap of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s seat. Officers also observed a partially empty bottle of Jack Daniels next to the car. Officers checked to see if the cap fit the bottle, and it did. While at the hospital, officers could smell alcohol coming from Gibbs’ breath when he admitted to having one shot. Gibbs was then asked to perform sobriety tests. After performing poorly, he stated that he had had three shots the night before. A breath sample was taken, resulting in .060% BAC. Given the fact that over two hours had passed since the accident, officers had probable cause to arrest Gibbs for driving under the influence with a child. Gibbs also later admitted to driving without a license.
Zachary W. Gibbs of Jane Circle in Ashland City, TN, was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail on December 29th, charged with DUI with a child and no driver’s license. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $1,500, and the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office gave him pre-trial release from their facility.
