Javonte Gordon charged in $100 theft of candy from downtown store

18-year-old Javonte Gordon entered the Downtown Wine and Spirits on 2nd Avenue with three juvenile co-defendants on July 20. Once inside, the entire group reportedly worked in concert to steal approximately $100 worth of candy. Police say Gordon distracted the clerk, Silas Lunsford, by engaging in conversation and even purchasing some candy. The other three allegedly blocked the view of the clerk and stole the candy without paying. The entire incident was captured on the store’s surveillance cameras, and Detective Riley Brewer identified the defendants through the video, and warrants were issued in August. Gordon was taken into custody last week on the charge of theft of merchandise.

Silas Lunsford charged with DUI, thanks to a Trooper’s taste for a Cherry ICEE

51-year-old Silas Lunsford pulled into the Shell gas station on Hillsboro Pike on June 6 and went into the store. Just outside was THP Trooper Reggie Edge, who was finishing pumping his gas. The Trooper went inside and was paying for his Cherry ICEE when he noticed Lunsford was visibly intoxicated and had trouble standing. Lunsford admitted to having two alcoholic drinks when asked by the Trooper and agreed to perform field sobriety tests, which he did poorly on. He was taken into custody and charged with DUI.
