33-year-old Stuart Dwight was charged with aggravated assault after strangling and throwing things at his girlfriend on March 31st during an argument over their dog urinating on their bed.
On March 31th, officers made the scene at 1216 11th Avenue South in response to a reported assault. Once they arrived, they spoke with Ladonna Burleson who explained that she had gotten into a physical altercation with boyfriend Dwight Stuart. Ladonna advised she had just returned from Taco Bell when Stuart began to argue with her about the dog urinating on the bed. She stated the argument got physical and Stuart gripped her by the throat cutting off her breathing and threw her to the ground. Ladonna explained that he left the apartment after the attack, went to his car, and threw a stick at her striking her in the back of the head.
Karen Burleson told police that she had witnessed Dwight Stuart poised on top of her daughter and contacted police. While she was contacting the police she advised that he left the apartment again and then threw a stick at her. Police took photos of Ladonna’s throat and the back of her head but were not able to see any signs of injury.
During Ladonna’s statement, her voice was raspy and the officer noted in the statement that in her earlier statement she reported being strangled until she could barely breathe. Police were able to recover the stick the witness reported was used in the assault.
On August 11th, Stuart Dwight was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. His bond was set at $10,000.
