Man found sleeping in running truck with marijuana and a revoked license

24-year-old Travon Smotherman was charged with possession of meth, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and driving on a revoked license after he was found sleeping in his truck that was still running in the middle of the road.

On December 2nd, The Nashville Fire Department responded to a subject sleeping in his 2001 Ford Explorer at the intersection of Old Hickory Boulevard West and Gallatin Pike South. The NFD assisted Travon Smotherman out of the truck to check his vitals. When Metro Nashville officers arrived, they noticed a glass pipe on the driver’s seat from the truck door that remained open when Travon was removed.

According to the report, officers also could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. During a search, they recovered 6 grams of marijuana, 3 grams of methamphetamine, a glass pipe, and a digital scale. He told officers the glass pipe that was used for meth belonged to him, as well as the box that contained marijuana. Officers then searched Travon’s name in their system and discovered his license was revoked and he has six prior failures to appear in the past five years.

Travon Smotherman was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and marijuana, unlawful drug paraphernalia, and driving on a revoked license. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $4,000 bond.
